Question by Question Person: 4 Month Old Baby With Horrible Cough and Phlegm! Help!?
Okay so my nephew is only 4 months old and he has a horrible cough and phlegm. Its so bad it gets to the point wer he coughs repeatedly and he can’t breath and he turns PURPLE! It is a very scary thing to witness. So my sister (the babys mum) already took him to the doctor like 4 times. The first time they gave him this “pain and fever relief” medicine that i guess it did help his pain and fever but not his phlegm. So the 2nd and 3rd time they didnt do much and didnt give us anything else. So they decided to take him to a different doctor and he gave us this syrup that makes him throw up his phlegm. And wer on day two with this medicane and i mean it does make him through up his phlegm and all but it doesnt seem to make him any better at all ( i think it might have made him worse ). The the phlegm keeps on coming back. SO PLEASE HELP! we dont know what else to do?? Any tips advice? Also note he first had a cough then it devoped into this cough with phlegm.

This may help with his congestion. Put the shower on really hot and sit with the baby on your lap on the toilet. Treat it like a sauna. That way the steam should break up the cough. That’s what i have done in the past and it works.

    there was just this week an article in NY Times about the rising number of cases of pertussis, and this sounds like that. The poor little guy. The steamy shower might help; a humidifier in his room, or vaporizer with the mentholated solution that steams out into the air. I would insist that he be tested for pertussis, which is whooping cough, and treated for it. Only 4 months. Poor little baby.
