Really helpful sounds, thanks very much!
In response to “phyloes2″, S1 is due to Ventricular systole rasising the pressure in the ventricle which then forces the mitral and tricuspid valves to close.
When the ventricles have finished contracting and therefore are not ejecting blood into either the aorta of pulmonary artery (i.e diastole) the back flow of blood due to the sudden pressure drop closes the semilunar valves- hence S2.
the 1st heart sound (s1) is ventricular systole NOT atria contraction.
ventricular systole forces the mitral/tricuspids valves shut causing s1
diastole causes s2 – semilunar valves (pulmonary and aortic) shut to prevent backflow into ventricles and cause blood to flow into the atria
the reason for this is the first sound is the atria contracting. they are maybe half the size of the ventricles. they empty all blood left in them into the ventricles and then atrial valves snap shut. pressure is high and moving all that blood requires a lot of strength- hence the thick myocardium (muscles) in wall and apex. their bigger and more forceful contraction makes a louder sound.
all of that is from memory= i guess i was paying attention in class….
i can just make out the second heart sound. It is not vague, as i have learnt, it should be quieter than the first heart sound. can you explain this? thank u very much xxx
why cant i hear the two beats? all i can hear is the murmur? also, is this a severe stenosis? could u give a severity from 1-10? thanks for this. i have learnt.

"Dr. Jo is the best chiropractor I've ever had, and I've seen many (17) up & down the west coast. He spends time with you to understand your pains and then knows what & where to work."
~ Daniel C.
"Dr. Jo isn't your average chiropractor, he believes in a comprehensive continuum of care -- not just a quick fix but a life fix....This approach has greatly aided my road to recovery. You would be remiss if you didn't try his services."
~ Joe U.
"Dr. Jo was able to answer every question I threw at him, walked me through every adjustment, and explained how it was beneficial to my health. After two years, I still leave each session feeling 10x's better than I did when I walked in. I have been to a few Chiropractor's in my area and take time out of my day to drive 45 minutes to see Dr. Jo. What can I say? He's the best!"
~ Sherri Y.
"Dr. Jo is the best! I'm so happy to have found a chiropractor that truly cares about my health and well being. Dr. Jo listens and takes the time to address my specific problems. His adjustments are consistently great! Under Dr. Jo's care, my immune system has improved, my neck and back tension has decreased, and I feel 101% better every time I leave his office. I highly recommend Dr. Jo!"
