Tendonitis, arthritis or carpal tunnel syndrome?
Question by Karen H: Tendonitis, arthritis or carpal tunnel syndrome?
I went to the General doctor because another thing i had and i also told him about the pain on my hands I’ve felt. I did an X-ray and he said didn’t show anything, but my blood test (which was for checking my joints) was positive. Then he referred me to a rheumatoid doctor (or something like that). he didn’t know what could be once the x ray was ok. So, it’s not tendonitis, right? could it be arthiritis or carpal tunnel?
I don’t have insurance and the appointment with the other doctor will be just in 3 months, which I know it’s too far and it can leave with a chronic problem.
What could I do to avoid getting worse? I am a house cleaner and i know it’s because of this. But i can’t leave my job. which kind of those “wrist gloves” i could use? i was using one the compress the wrist, but i just read it shouldn’t be tight if it’s carpal syndrome.
is there an anti inflammatory over the counter i could use? i used bengay and in the beginning worked out, but now, it makes the pain even worse.
Thanks for the first answer, but i don’t want to take pain killers, i want to fix it, or at least get rid of the inflammation.
the x ray was of the wrist and fingers

I know how you feel cause I had those problem before…I did research on the net and found a website call newgrip…google it up and go to that site…I bought the one which you can wrap on your wrist. I am using that for 5 months now and I haven’t got any wrist pain since then. I work in a grocery store and imagine opening 800 -1000 boxes of stock every week.
Trust me I don’t go to work without wearing wrist wrapper it really supports your hand….
Wear a wrist support splint when you work, and take an OTC antiinflammatory like aspirin until you see the rheumatologist. Xray doesn’t rule out tendinitis…it only shows bones and cartilage. Tendons are soft tissues, and you need ultrasound exams or a scan to show soft tissue injuries.
Yes it could be carpal tunnel or tendinitis.
You need to see an orthopedic specialist for this, not a chiropractor.
pain in the hands can be several things. you said that the x-rays did not show anything, if the x-rays were only of the wrist they may not show any abnormalities. Carpal Tunnel syndrome typically begins with grip weakness, then pain later. many times people will think they have carpal tunnel syndrome when they problems stemming from the neck, shoulder or elbow. you can compress the nerves that will give you wrist or hand pain at any of these points. if you can press on the center of the wrist at the base of the palm with your thumb and that reproduces or increases the hand symptoms; you may have a carpal tunnel problem.
BUT YOU SHOULD BE CHECKED TO MAKE SURE.
Most of the time, what we find in my office is referred to as a double crush syndrome. this is where the nerves are compressed at multiple points along the distribution of the nerve. The most significant compression is usually at the nerve root in the neck. the lower cervical nerve roots (C4 to T2) are the nerve roots that make up the brachial plexus (the nerve bundle that innervates the arm).
there are repetitive stresses, poor posture, work conditions, previous injuries that can add up to give you little pressures over a long time leading to something minor triggering pain in to the arms or hands.
you should be able to find a chiropractor near you that would be able to get you in within a couple days (if not the same day) to evaluate you to see what we may be able to help with.
I have seen several patients with similar complaints that have had significant relief.
if you feel that this is something that you would like to try and you need help finding a good chiropractor near you. feel free to contact me, i will gladly help to find someone near you
